Municipal waste management is now become a hot issue on which no one gets a clear view to how to solve the problem. Funds are available from the state government and other agencies to tackle the issue. Managing waste from its origin has become a slogan of the socio-political organisations but no fruitful efforts have been made on this critical question. The MPhil scholars of Centre for Development Studies in 2002, had identified Vilapilsala village as a case to unearth the question of municipal waste and its possible outcomes that may hinder the peaceful life of the villagers as well as the outsiders. We had come out a report identifying problems and made suggestions which become a live issue today in the political sphere of Kerala. Voices of the people at Vilappilsala should give priority because I still remember an image --a child eating rice from a small plate surrounded by hundreds of flies.
